Mott Haven Village Preparatory High School

Mott Haven Village Preparatory High School (MHVP) is a New York City Department of Education high school operated in partnership with East Side House Settlement. Created in 2002 for young people in the South Bronx who aspire to higher education, MHVP presently serves 350 students in grades 9-12. Mott Haven Village Prep offers a challenging academic curriculum and unique support services to help students become college-ready and self-assured. The dynamic program offers opportunities such as internships, SAT preparation, service learning, local and out-of-state college tours, counseling, and student advisory groups.

In a neighborhood too often known for its poverty and crime rates, Mott Haven Village Prep students, who typically begin the program with reading and math skills significantly below grade level, are distinguished for statistics of a different sort: since its inception, MHVP has consistently achieved a graduation rate of close to 90%, and over 90% of its graduates have gained admission to college.

In the Class of 2011, 90% of the seniors graduated and 100% of the students who applied to college were accepted. 82% of the graduates of the Class of 2010 who enrolled in college have completed their first year of college on time.
